When hair no longer grows where it should because of an accident or surgical scar,
the scar stands out even more. A hair transplant is one of the best ways to conceal it.

Case 3.
Scars from accidents and habits
Because MOJELIM has focused on hair transplantation alone since 1997,
our accumulated know-how helps conceal even deep scars
through high graft survival.

FUT (Strip)
FUE

A strip of scalp is taken from the back of the head,
and healthy follicles are transplanted where needed
Only the follicles needed are extracted one by one
from between the hairs, without an incision
※ FUT and FUE differ only in how follicles are harvested — neither is overwhelmingly better.
The right method is determined by diagnosis, based on your scalp condition and stage of hair loss.
In scar tissue, the follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat glands are destroyed and the central vessels shrunken, so blood flow is poor —
and the tissue is replaced by tough, inelastic fibrous tissue that cannot hold and anchor implanted follicles well.
Transplanting here demands far more skill than transplanting into normal tissue.

That is why scar transplants involve treatments that soften the scar tissue and encourage new vessels,
raising graft survival — and why the surgeon needs the know-how to anchor grafts deeper and more firmly
than in normal tissue for a successful result.

※ The photos in this post were taken of the same patient under identical conditions, with the patient's consent, after surgery or treatment at MOJELIM Plastic Surgery Clinic.
※ Pain, bleeding, folliculitis and pigmentation may occur after surgery or treatment, and bruising, swelling and the results themselves vary from person to person.
※ Before-and-after photos show the result at the number of days elapsed stated and may differ from what you see in person.
The method varies with the scar’s size, degree of fibrosis (how hard it is),
and the condition of the dermis and subcutaneous fat layers.

Follicles are implanted with an implanter pen, as in a standard transplant.

A hole is made first, then follicles are implanted with the pen.

Scar tissue is removed with an FUE punch, and follicles are implanted into the space.
When the scar is not too deep, large or hard, the standard method works well —
but for deep, wide or very hard scars, making room for the hair with a slit or punch
leads to a better result.

Mesotherapy before and after surgery
Hardened, fibrotic scar tissue lowers graft survival,
so mesotherapy nourishes the scalp
and strengthens weakened roots.

Focused EGF (epidermal growth factor) care
For permanent follicle loss from second-degree or worse burns, scalp flaps or
tissue expansion used to be required — at MOJELIM, one or two
transplant sessions restore the area naturally, without major surgery.

Can any scalp scar be transplanted?
A transplant moves living follicle tissue, so as long as the scar is free of inflammation and has enough blood flow for grafts to survive, a satisfying result can be expected.
Can scars on the mustache area or chin be transplanted too, not just the scalp?
Yes. Beards are made of short, thick single hairs. During donor harvesting, single hairs — or thick hairs separated into singles — are used for the transplant.
I have a tattoo on the area — is a transplant possible?
Yes, tattooed areas are fine. Note that tattooed skin is usually more coarsely scarred at the tissue level, so graft survival can be somewhat lower than in untattooed skin.
What is a scar hair transplant?
A procedure that implants follicles directly into a scalp scar so hair conceals it. The method is chosen by the scar's location and severity.
How long does surgery take, and what about recovery?
Usually under 2 hours on average (varies with graft count), under local anesthesia with sedation — daily life is possible the next day.

From consultation to surgery
Q
Does the surgeon ever change to someone else mid-surgery?
A
At MOJELIM, your surgeon personally operates from the start of surgery to the end.

One surgeon takes responsibility for your surgery from beginning to end.
Because one surgeon handles everything from consultation to surgery, results are more natural with higher graft survival.
Q
MOJELIM performs many surgeries — how do you manage your surgeons' condition?
A
Our surgeons follow a 'minimum surgery schedule,' entering every operation in peak condition.
FUT / FUE surgery
1–2 per day
Surgeries per MOJELIM surgeon, per day
A surgeon’s condition can affect the safety and results of that day’s patients.
To maintain personal condition and surgical skill,
each MOJELIM surgeon performs only one or two operations per day.
Q
Could a new doctor be operating on me?
A
Even new doctors complete a two-year training period before performing surgery.

At MOJELIM, a doctor may perform surgery only after at least two years of training.
(Two years of residency after obtaining a medical license)
During those two years, each doctor takes part in about 1,000 surgeries (roughly 4,000 hours).
This training system is how MOJELIM promises consistently satisfying results, whoever your surgeon is.
The right team size
Q
How many staff take part in a surgery?
A
Up to seven, for maximum surgical efficiency.

In hair transplantation, the golden time between harvesting and implantation is a key factor in graft survival.
To shorten surgery time and raise efficiency, one surgeon, three nurses and two to three follicle technicians —
up to seven staff — work on a single patient’s surgery.
